Mircea Diaconu resigns from Senate

Mircea Diaconu has resigned as a senator, the Senate Press Department informed yesterday. During the same day, the Senate took note of the termination of the mandate of PNL Senator Mircea Diaconu with a lack of working quorum, approximately 20 MPs being present. Diaconu told Mediafax that he was making the gesture of resigning in order to resolve the blockage in the higher chamber should his mandate had been recalled, but noted that it would still be an issue until a new plenary session. Diaconu ironically explained his resignation by the fact that Romania needed that to enter Schegen.
