Hackers who cheated Americans with USD 4 M arrested

DIICOT prosecutors yesterday conducted 27 raids in Bucharest and seven counties, targeting a ring of suspected IT criminals that allegedly cheated 100 American citizens by holding fraudulent auctions on the internet, with the loss being estimated at USD 4 M, Mediafax reports. Prosecutors of the Department for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) – Gorj Territorial Bureau, along with judiciary police officers of the Gorj Service against Organised Crime, dismantled an organised group that consisting of 20 people suspected of computer crimes. During the 27 raids, officers searched the homes of the 20 suspects, located in Bucharest and the counties of Gorj, Olt, Ilfov, Valcea, Bacau, Timis and Caras-Severin. At the end of searches, the 20 suspects will be taken for questioning at the offices of DIICOT – Gorj Territorial Bureau, where prosecutors will decide if they should be detained.
