TV star Niels Schnecker refuses proposal to chair CFR Board

Antena 3 TV star Niels Schnecker was proposed yesterday to be the head if the Board of Directors of CFR SA as Chairman. The information has been confirmed by Transport Minister Ovidiu Silaghi. Schnecker refused the proposal, according to Amtena3, saying he prefers to remain with the media. Asked if the appointment of Schnecker was part of the process of recruiting private managers for state-owned companies, Minister Silaghi’s answer was positive. Niels Schnecker is managing senior partner of Schnecker van Wyk&Pearson consultancy and has a background in financial management. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development informed at the end of November it had granted CFR SA a loan of EUR 175 M to help the administrator of the country’s railway infrastructure restructure its balance sheet and pay current debt. CFR SA is totally under state control, through the Ministry of Transport.
