Cernavoda nuclear plant reactor undergoes unscheduled shutdown

Reactor 2 of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant underwent an unscheduled shutdown, so that the electricity production of the state-owned Nuclearelectrica dropped to less than half. “Unit 2 was shut down; we don’t know the causes yet. It’s nothing serious,” Nuclearelectrica general manager Dumitru Dina stated. A similar unscheduled shutdown took place in November 2012. When the two reactors are operational Nuclearelectrica covers approximately 20 per cent of the national energy needs.
