Gigi Becali’s vacant MEP seat sparks PRM infighting

The MEP seat that Gigi Becali vacated after being elected in the Romanian Parliament’s Lower Chamber has sparked veritable infighting within PRM after PRM President Corneliu Vadim Tudor informed the Permanent Electoral Authority that the seat will go to Dan Zamfirescu, not to Eugen Mihaescu, although the latter outranks Zamfirescu on the list of substitutes. Thus, through a letter signed by party president Corneliu Vadim Tudor, PRM points out that Dan Dumitru Zamfirescu, who is 7th on the list of substitutes for the European Parliament, will take George Becali’s place within the EP, realitatea.net informs, quoted the NewsIn agency. Becali ran for an MEP seat in 2009, on PRM lists. Vadim Tudor stated yesterday that the nomination of Dan Zamfirescu is the party’s political decision, former Senator Eugen Mihaescu not having the right to attack it. “He sat in Paris doing nothing and now he wants a handout,” Vadim stated.
