Paintings by some of the best Romanian paintings including Grigorescu, Tonitza, Andreescu, Petrascu, Cumpana, Vermont, Darascu, Ciucurencu, Caltia, Baba and Balasa will be put on auction block in Bucharest, January 30, at the first Artmark auction this year.
Works up for sale at the Major Romanian Art & Postmodern and Contemporary Art will be displayed at Hotel Aro Palace Brasov and International Hotel Sinaia Friday Jan 18 thru Monday Jan 21. In Bucharest, the exhibit auction can be visited at Artmark Gallery in the Capital, Jan 22 – 29 and at Athenee Palace Hilton, the auction venue, Jan 10.00 am to7.00. Among the works up for auction, the portrait “Venetiana (Putana)” by Nicolae Tonitza, estimated value 80,000 to 150,000 euro, “Mioare” <Ewes> by Nicolae Grigorescu, estimated at 25,000 to 45,000 euro, and “Women in the Park “ Ioan Andreescu, estimated worth 80,000 – 150,000 euro.According to Artmark, 2012 was the year postmodern and contemporary art fetched the biggest amounts in the short history of auctions exclusively dedicated to this art segment. With sales that totaled 240,000 euro and an adjudication rate of 83.12 pc the Postmodernism and Contemporary Auction in November 2012 registered the highest sales amount in the short history of such auctions. Artmark also reports that works by the established interwar classic and modern painters were much sought after in 2012, their prices being more accessible than those of heritage painters. After 2011, which saw the top Romanian painters achieving stunning quota rises (Nicolae Grigorescu +58.61 pc, Nicolae Tonitza +48.49 pc), 2012 was a consolidation year. Heritage artists remained a sure investment both for those art collectors willing to complete their collections, as well as for market newcomers seeking either secure placements or ready to start their collections with works by established authors, Artmark also states.During its five years of existence, Artmark has organized nearly100 art auctions, put up for sale over 10,000 art works and collection items. The worth of Artmark public sales (art auctions) rose from EUR 5.5 M in 2010 to EUR 11 M in 2011 – on a public sales market whose worth rose from nearly EUR 8.3 M in 2010 to some EUR 14 M in 2011 and EUR 12 M in 2012 respectively.
