Professor Andrei Tudorel, doctorate tutor with the Academy of Economic Studies, with the specialisation Economic Statistics and Cybernetics, was appointed by PM Victor Ponta as chief of the National Statistics Institute (INS) by decision signed Friday. In 1998, he was a World Bank statistician for the analysis of matters related to the reform of financing the education system and in 2006-2007 he worked with the National Prognosis Commission as a member of a PHARE project. Premier Victor Ponta announced on January 3 that a calculation error made by the INS regarding the GDP revised downwards by approximately RON 20 bln the GDP for 2011. The next day, Ponta demanded the secretary general of the Government to prepare the replacement of the INS top management, for the “serious error” that occurred.
