The ‘Jews for Sale’ documentary by Radu Gabrea, speaking of the trading in human beings in Communist Romania, can be seen at the Union Cinematheque in Bucharest today from 17:00 and tomorrow from 19:00. Radu Gabrea (75) is a Romanian film director who lived in Germany from 1974 to 1997, when he returned to the country. According to Gabrea, the film was inspired to him by Radu Ioanid’s book ‘The Ransom of Romanian Jews’ published in the USA and translated into Romanian by Polirom publishers. He documented his film mostly based on Securitate records, but also using various document books on the phenomenon and by talking to historians and journalists, with witnesses directly involved in the events, the director also noted.
