Speaking to Romania TV, former Democrat-Liberal minister Elena Udrea said that many Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) members believe that Basescu would be able to redress the party. “There are PDL fellow members who believe that it would be a good solution for Traian Basescu to be the party’s head again, once his term in office as Romania’s president is over. They know what a strong hand means, a leader able to help an opposition party rise,” Udrea said, who added that she referred to grassroots members, and not senior leaders. However, she finds such talk useless as long as Traian Basescu is president of the country.
