The chief accountant of the ‘Victor Babes’ Hospital of Bucharest, Anisoara Barbulescu was remanded for 29 days by the Sector 3 Tribunal, as she was accused of more than 400 acts of embezzlement, forging and using fake official documents, rtv.net reports. She may challenge the decision at the Bucharest Tribunal. In the document that justifies the remand, prosecutors explain that, during January-September 2012, as chief accountant of the ‘Victor Babes’ Hospital of Bucharest, Anisoara Barbulescu embezzled a total sum of RON 672,416 from the money of the hospital, through repeated criminal actions, using two modalities. Barbulescu did not integrally deposit at the treasury, to the account of the hospital, the sums given to her by the cashier and the pertaining documents, and took money from the institution’s account, using cheques, then she either returned smaller sums, or did not return the money at all. “The checkbook of the hospital was kept by the suspect, who was the only person that wrote the cheques,” prosecutors wrote in the document that justifies the remand proposal. As soon as the hospital started to verify the case, Barbulescu estranged all her assets – two plots of land and two apartments – “thus making it more difficult to recover the loss,” added the prosecutors.
