The energy produced by the thermal power plant which will be constructed by ‘Complexul Energetic Oltenia’ jointly with a Chinese company will be exported to Austria and Turkey, the general manager of the Complex, Laurentiu Ciurel announced, quoted by Mediafax. “This plant will not be a competitor for the other coal-based energy producers. Export was one of the conditions, in order not to compete against CE Oltenia in the country,” he said in a joint press conference with the delegate minister for Energy, Constantin Nita. The power plant developed by China Huadian Engineering and CE Oltenia will have an installed capacity of 600 MW and will generate 5 TW/h of electricity each year, at an estimated production cost of 45 EUR/MWh. Ciurel added that the unit will secure 3,000 jobs and the construction license might be obtained in November. The construction will last approximately 36 months from the moment when the construction license is issued. “The construction will be made almost integrally by Romanian companies. The contracts for coal will be signed with Complexul Energetic Oltenia, everything will be procured from the Romanian market. We estimate a price of 45 EUR/MWh, similar to those of Complexul Energetic Oltenia,” Ciurel added. In a different move, the delegate minister for Energy, Constantin Nita informed that the nomination of the general manager of Complexul Energetic Oltenia was made in legal conditions and Fondul Proprietatea “is free to voice as much criticism as it pleases.” “The Supervisory Board of Complexul Energetic Oltenia had all the rights, although it was an interim structure. When a recruiting company says that Laurentiu Ciurel is suitable for manager, we have nothing to comment,” Nita said. Ciurel, the general manager of CE Oltenia, was appointed Monday by the Supervisory Board as private manager of the company, for a 4-year term. He was selected by a recruiting firm hired by the Ministry of Economy to find a professional manager for Complexul Energetic Oltenia.
