The Romanian state sued its own employees after, in 2010, the Youth and Sports National Authority paid 6 M euro from the state budget for a tract of land in the area of the Olimpia sports base in Bucharest. At the time, the Authority was subordinated to Education Minister Daniel Funeriu, according to realitatea.net. The price paid was overvalued by 70 pc, according to an internal Youth and Sports Ministry auditing report. The piece of land stretches over 11.000 sq. m, and the Agency paid 380 euro/sq. m for it, although the price in that area averaged 250 euro. “My name does not appear in any contract and no payment as well. The contract was drawn up by the Olimpia sports club. A trial was lost in court by the Authority involving a piece of land that must have been returned. The court case being lost resulted in the ground having to re-enter the sports circuit. The price evaluations are made by certified companies attached to the Ministry of Justice. Any inquiry is welcome,” Daniel Funeriu told Realitatea TV.
