A GfK Romania study about Internet usage in Romania over two years – 2010 and 2012 shows that the incidence among people aged over 15 years was 48.7 pc last year, a growth of 8.4 pc compared to 2010, a press release informs. The percentage of women using Internet is growing faster than that the percentage of men. In 2012, approximately 50 pc of men and over 47 pc of women use the Internet. Number of men increased by 7.7 pc compared to 2010, while that of women by 9.3 pc. Rural areas also show a good dynamic, with an important growth in 2012 versus 2010 – about 11 pc more people have turned to this communication channel last year, reaching 33 pc of the rural population. Regarding urban areas, 61 pc of citizens used the Internet in 2012, up to 6.7 pc compared to 2010. Highest internet penetration is in Bucharest, where 68 pc of people aged over 15 years accessed this environment. Youngsters are heavy users of Internet. About 83 pc of people aged 15-24 years use it, 71 pc of those between 25 and 34 years and 62 pc of those between 35 and 44 years. It is interesting that the Internet usage increased the most among mature people, 35-44 years (up to 15 pc, compared to 2010). A significant increase of approximately 8 pc is registered for the age range 45-54 years. When referring to education, the study shows that 89 pc of people with higher education and 52 pc of people with medium education are Internet users.
