Constitutional referendum in September

Development Minister Liviu Dragnea stated on Tuesday, referring to the project on regionalizing Romania, that the regions with already elected leadership structures should be operational by December 2013 at the latest, pointing out that the Constitutional referendum will be organized in September. “The leadership structures already elected – regional councils, regional presidents or governors or whatever their names will be – should be functional in December at the latest,” Liviu Dragnea stated. He added that he cannot come to Parliament with a package of laws on regionalization before the Constitution is modified so that the notion of region, as an administrative unit, can be stipulated. The Deputy Prime Minister explained that the process of regionalization will not generate new expenditures, on the contrary.
