Romanian university under forced execution by own academics

The accounts of the Valahia University in Targoviste could be frozen, after the court ruled, under Law 221/2008, that the nearly 350 of the university’s academics shall be paid salary arrears, with a bailiff to freeze the university accounts by Tuesday at the latest.  According to Valahia University Alma Mater Trade union the bailiff’s deadline expires on Monday, with the university accounts to be frozen on Tuesday. According to the source quoted, the court ruling is definitive.  As Valahia University officials did not comply with the court ruling, the trade unions resorted to a court bailiff to freeze the university accounts. “During 2012, we got a definitive court ruling over some salary arrears, under Law 221/2008. The payments were to be paid by installments, namely 5 pc in 2012. Last February, we informed the new university leadership that we must find solutions to implement the ruling. Nonetheless, each time, the rector was defiant and voiced his opposition to the issue being solved,” Union leader Elena Ciungu said.
