Elena Basescu denounces Rares Buglea to Brussels

During the European Parliament session,  MEP Elena Basescu informed Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding about Liberal local council Rares Buglea’s statements on the sterilization of poor Roma women.

The Democrat-Liberal MEP expressed her “consternation” at Buglea’s rhetorical question: “Why should we allow her to have her second baby, which should we let her have her fifth?” “What we therefore have to do here is gender, ethnic and social status discrimination. Moreover, this is a gross violation of human rights, of the right to life respectively. What is surprising is this gentleman who instigates racial hatred collaborated with a foundation implementing EU-funded projects aimed at Roma protection,” said Elena Basescu. Rares Buglea resigned on Monday his position as president of the Alba Liberal Youth organization, saying he distances himself from the National Liberal Party (PNL) until the scandal in wherein he is involved is clarified.
