Hezbollah linked to Burgas bus bombing

A bus bombing that killed five Israelis and a driver in Bulgaria was the work of Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group, officials say, quoted by BBC. The attack, in the Black Sea resort of Burgas in July 2012, was carried out by a bomber who died at the scene. But police and Bulgarian officials said he was part of a Hezbollah cell that included two operatives using passports from Australia and Canada. The group is believed to have arrived in Burgas a month before the bombing. In the wake of the bombing, Bulgaria’s PM said there was “no chance” of detecting the group’s activities before the attack.A photofit of the suspected bomber was released, but few details were known about his identity. Unveiling the results of the six-month inquiry in Sofia on Tuesday, Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said the bomber was among two individuals now under scrutiny. “We have established that the two were members of the militant wing of Hezbollah,” he said. “There is data showing the financing and connection between Hezbollah and the two suspects.”
