CSAT: Romanian authorities focused on saving the lives of hostages in Algeria

Referring to the crisis of hostages in Algeria, the Defence Council (CSAT) explained Tuesday night that “the entire strategy and all the actions launched by Romanian authorities concentrated on saving the lives” of Romanian citizens, as there is no real data base with the Romanians that are in a country at a certain moment. The report on the actions of state authorities and institutions in view of managing the situation of Romanian citizens generated by the terrorist attack of Algeria was on the agenda of the CSAT meeting held Tuesday at the Cotroceni Palace. President Traian Basescu said on January 23 that, during the crisis in Algeria, Romania did not have an information issue, but one “of correct processing.”
Also Tuesday, the CSAT approved the Cybernetic Security Strategy, a document that “aims at implementing security measures that will increase the protection of cybernetic infrastructures in line with the new concepts and policies in the field of cybernetic defence, devised and adopted at the level of NATO and the European Union.” President Traian Basescu said on January 21 that, in the past period, “Romania was the target of an unprecedented cyber-attack” which it was capable to thwart due to the preparations it started three years ago, when CSAT turned the protection of IT systems into a priority.
