Resignation at Romgaz Medias following corruption charges

Adrian Marcel Piteiu, general manager of the Romgaz SA Medias Natural Gas Company, resigned yesterday as a result of the corruption charges brought against him.
The National Integrity Agency (ANI) announced yesterday in a communiqué that it discovered the existence of clues according to which Romgaz Medias general manager Marcel Adrian Piteiu perpetrated conflict of interests and corruption crimes. In this sense, ANI has asked the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) to investigate Piteiu. According to ANI, when exercising his prerogatives as legal representatives of Romgaz SA Medias, Marcel Adrian Piteiu “participated in the taking of decisions and in the process of assigning public procurement contracts, by approving needed referrals, assignment paperwork, reports and decisions concerning the designation of winning bids and by signing commercial contracts with SC APROV SA Medias,” a company whose administrator he was from 2001 to 2005, the benefits obtained by the company totaling RON 66,454,374.17 (approximately 15,218,442 Euros).
Marcel Adrian Piteiu was, from March 18, 2005 to January 19, 2009, deputy general manager of Romgaz SA Medias (starting on March 18, 2005), director of the Exploration Department (starting on June 15, 2007) and general manager (starting on January 19, 2009). At the same time, Piteiu was administrator of APROV SA Medias, from November 7, 2001 to May 25, 2005, ANI informs.
