PSD Senator Mircea Geoana deems it necessary that the top level dialogue between Romania and the USA continues, saying that a visit to Washington by PM Victor Ponta, but also a visit to Bucharest by US President Barack Obama would be opportune. ‘A visit by PM Victor Ponta to Washington this year and a visit by resident Barack Obama to Bucharest during his current term in office would be a natural follow-up on our top level political dialogue. (…) The political dialogue should also continue in the defence and strategic areas. We have reiterated the Romanian Government’s invitation to in-coming Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel to Bucharest this coming spring, marking the beginning of the work on developing the ballistic missile defence system in our country’, Mircea Geoana states in a press release issued at the end of his working visit to Washington in the period from February 4 to February 11. The central theme of the visit was stepping up and diversifying the Strategic Partnership after the presidential and Congress elections in the US and parliamentary election in Romania. In Washington, Mircea Geoana met up with American officials and former officials, as well as representatives of the Congress and of the most important American think-thanks and universities.
