The premier demands stronger control regulations for POSDRU

Premier Victor Ponta congratulated the ministers of Labour, and European Funds, for unblocking POSDRU and asked them to continue strengthening the control rules, warning that although “beneficiaries will be upset,” the government cannot afford risking a new blockage of POSDRU because some were “greedy,” Mediafax reports. “If we get too complacent after unblocking POSDRU and do not move forward with scratching those projects – I don’t want to say how they are, exaggerated – with strengthening the control regulations, we will find ourselves in trouble once again,” Ponta said Wednesday, at the beginning of the cabinet meeting.
The officials of the European Union decided last week to unblock the Sectorial Operational Programme Human Resources Development (POSDRU) and to resume payments towards Romania, following the audit mission organised during January 29 – February 1, 2013. In this context, the European Commission will resume the payments towards Romania, for the payments requests submitted in December 2012, worth EUR 148 M, but a financial correction of 25 pc will be temporarily enforced.
The payments relative to POSDRU were suspended last summer, over irregularities identified in how projects were granted and achieved previously.
