Embassy: Jinga’s long pauses and convulsive utterances on CNN, due to technical problems

The Romanian embassy in Great Britain points out that Romanian ambassador Ion Jinga’s long pauses and convulsive utterances during his appearance on CNN on Tuesday evening, which were the targets of ironies from the Romanian press, were caused by technical problems for which the television channel’s local team apologized.
“As a result of the comments that appeared in the mass-media concerning the Romanian ambassador’s intervention, the Foreign Affairs Ministry points out: In virtue of the good relations that ambassador Ion Jinga has developed with the British mass-media, CNN invited him to comment on the recent scandal concerning the sale of mislabeled products in Great Britain, products that allegedly contained horse meat. A series of technical difficulties occurred during the broadcast, considering that the journalist doing the interview was in Hong Kong while ambassador Ion Jinga was in the CNN studio in London (a delay of several seconds in dialogue, superimposed voices, echo), causing long pauses and convulsive utterances,” a communiqué issued by the Romanian Embassy in Great Britain and quoted by Mediafax reads.
According to the aforementioned source, at the end of the interview the ambassador notified CNN’s local team of the situation, the team confirming that this is not the first situation of this kind and apologizing for the problem. “We point out that ambassador Jinga is a diplomat with over 20 years of experience, giving during his term in London dozens of interviews for the British press. He has had over 10 interventions in the last two weeks alone, defending the Romanians’ right to free movement and Romania’s image in Great Britain,” the aforementioned source points out.
Premier Victor Ponta came to the Romanian ambassador’s defence too, pointing out that Ion Jinga fought a lot for our country and for the rights of Romanian workers. The Premier made the statement on Wednesday evening, after the official took part in the signing of the contract between ExxonMobil, OMV Petrom and Romgaz, a contract concerning operations within the Midia perimeter. “I didn’t watch CNN, I watched all of his positions on issues concerning the horse meat row, the migration of Romanians, the rights of Romanians on the labor market. He is an ambassador that has fought a great deal for Romania so far,” Ponta stated, being quoted by Hotnews.ro.
Former foreign minister Mircea Geoana stated yesterday for RFI that he was stunned by the voice of ambassador Jinga at CNN, as he had been ‘very cramped’ and seemed ‘to be afraid of the TV.’ “Usually he is not at all like that. I know Jinga for years and he had never been put into difficulty in delicate moments. I was surprised! I believe he was under stress, I think that the idea of speaking for CNN about a delicate issue put pressure on him. I don’t really see another explanation,” the social-democrat senator said.
