In 2012, Romanian national airline Tarom flew 2.19 million passengers, similar to its 2011 counterpart, and regular flights transport capacity was down 5 pc, to 2.03 M passengers on all its regular domestic and international flights, with the remainder from charter and code-sharing flights, according to a Tarom communiqué. “Due to flight network optimizing measures and changes in flight frequency on certain destinations, the Tarom passenger carrying capacity was up to 66 pc in 2012 from 61 pc in 2011,” according to the release. Having met with IMF officials late last January, Transport Minister Relu Fenechiu said that the drafting is underway of the Tarom privatisation strategy, part of which the state could sell a 20-plus pc stake in the company.
