Andrei Chiliman, the Liberal Mayor of District 1, and former National Liberal Party (PNL) vice-president Vlad Moisescu on Sunday announced they had proposed ten amendments to the party statute so that the PNL “will no longer be subordinated to the interest and goals of a single person”. Among the amendments proposed, all the Political Bureau members, including the general secretary, being elected by uninominal vote, the presidential election candidate being voted by all the party members in a primary election, restricting to two the number of consecutive mandates of the PNL president, as well as an integrity criterion being instituted banning the access to governmental portfolios of those investigated for criminal deeds. Andrei Chiliman said he’s likely to run for a PNL leadership position when the Congress vote will be uninominal. PNL Vice-President Mihai Voicu said that freedom of expression is guaranteed in PNL, although some members abuse it.
