First medals won at EYOWF in Brasov

The first medals at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) in Brasov were won on Sunday. Thus, ice skater Tristan Navarro (France) won the gold medal in the men’s 1,500-meter short track event that took place on the skating rink in Poiana Brasov, Agerpres informs. He finished the race in 2 minutes and 20.691 seconds. Russia’s Daniil Zasosov won silver (2 minutes and 21.738 seconds), while France’s Yoann Martinez won bronze (2 minutes and 22.518 seconds). Russia’s Sofia Prosvirnova won the first medal on Sunday in the women’s 1,500-meter short track event, Agerpres informs. The athlete finished the race in 2 minutes and 28.319 seconds. Russia’s Ana Kalinina won silver (2 minutes and 28.444 seconds), while Poland’s Oliwia Gawlica won bronze (2 minutes and 30.450 seconds). Present in Romania to participate at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) in Brasov, Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) told the official website of the competition: “I’ve seen a very good infrastructure and a beautiful region, I hear very good voices coming from the coaches, the athletes are happy man too, the coaches and trainers are happy so I am a very happy man to”.He estimates that Romania has good chances for medals in alpine skiing and in biathlon.
