No layoffs at Oltchim until June 1

Ramnicu Valcea Mayor Emilian Francu stated on Tuesday for Agerpres that no layoffs will take place at Oltchim until June 1, the plant set to be reorganized until then, capital.ro informs. Oltchim will not be revitalized to the extent of being able to keep all of its current employees, and layoffs will take place at CFR Freight too, Premier Victor Ponta stated on Monday evening on Realitatea TV, adding: “Oltchim plant can be revitalized through a private investment.” He pointed out that CFR Freight, which will be privatised, will not keep all of its employees either. Oltchim currently has 3,353 employees. Moreover, at the start of the government meeting the Premier accused the “theft” that Democrat-Liberals Vasile Blaga, Adriean Videanu and Cristian Boureanu did at Oltchim, stating that he wants a debate in Parliament on this issue.  Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian met EU Commissioner for Competition Joaquin Almunia on Tuesday in Brussels in order to discuss the possibility of offering Oltchim a state aid of EUR 45 M. At the same time, Varujan Vosganian took part in the EU Competitiveness Council meeting, the section for industry and internal market, during which he pleaded for the re-launch of entrepreneurial spirit within the Union.
