Spain’s hopes of reaching the 2015 Rugby World Cup took another blow as they were beaten 25-15 by Romania in Gijon, in a game counting for the European Nations Cup tournament. It is the third consecutive victory for Romania in this tournament, according to the official website of the competition. Despite scoring just the one try through Catalin Fercu in the first-half, it was the boot of Florian Vlaicu that saw Romania home as he converted Fercu’s try and added six more penalties. The next game for the Romanians will take place in Brussels against Belgium, March 9. In another game played in Russia, Georgia defeated Russia 23-9 so that the Romania – Georgia confrontation scheduled for March 16 will establish the winner of this season. The top two sides at the end of the two-year qualification campaign will progress to the World Cup in England and Wales with the third-placed side going into a playoff.
