Judo: Andreea Chitu, second place at Düsseldorf Grand Prix

Romanian judoka Andreea Chitu was second in the 52-kg category at the IJF Grand Prix in Düsseldorf, Germany, after Kosovo’s Majlinda Kelmendi defeated her in the final through waza ari, Agerpres informs.
Chitu had defeated Tunisia’s Amani Khalfaoui in the first round, Japan’s Nodoka Tanimoto in the quarterfinals and Germany’s Mareen Kraeh in the semifinals, all wins obtained through nippon.
Romania’s Loredana Ohai failed to win the bronze medal in the same category, losing the decisive game to South Korea’s Kim Jan-Di. Ohai finished on 5th place. Romania’s Monica Ungureanu finished 7th in the 48-kg category, while fellow national Corina Caprioriu, Olympic runner-up in the 57-kg category, was defeated by Switzerland’s Larissa Csatari in the first round.
13 Romanian athletes (8 boys and 5 girls) took part in the competition.
