Insurance companies subscribed, in 2012, total gross premiums of RON 8.3 bln, up approximately 6 pc compared to 2011, according to figures reported to the Insurance Supervisory Commission (CSA) by insurers, informs a press release. In the segment of general insurances, subscriptions amounted to RON 6.5 bln, accounting to a 6.3 pc increase from the previous year. Life insurances generated subscriptions of RON 1.8 bln, 3.75 pc more than in 2011. The bulk of the general insurances portfolio (79 pc) was represented by subscriptions for vehicle insurances – Casco and RCA – and by insurances against fire and other natural disasters. The facultative insurances Casco accounted for almost 30 pc of the total portfolio of general insurances, with subscriptions exceeding RON 1.9 bln, down 3.72 pc against 2011. The total volume of gross compensations paid by insurers in 2012 neared RON 5.2 bln, up 6.33 pc against 2011. Based on general insurance contracts, insurers paid compensations exceeding RON 4.4 bln, representing an increase by 6.22 from the figures reported at the end of the previous year. The sums paid as gross compensations, maturities and repurchasing in the life insurances category amounted to RON 732 M, equivalent to a 7 pc increase compared to 2011.
