American Pianist Harvey Lavan Cliburn has died

Harvey Lavan Cliburn, an American pianist who won the prestigious Tchaikovsky international contest in Moscow during the Cold War period, and whose music went beyond the decades of confrontations between East and West, died on Wednesday, at the age of 78, according to the members of the pianist’s foundation. Harvey Lavan Cliburn has become famous worldwide when he won the 1958 edition, the first, of the P. I. Tchaikovsky international piano contest in Moscow, a competition organized to prove the alleged cultural superiority of the Soviet Union, thus becoming a famous cultural ambassador during a period marked by ideological tensions and nuclear threats.
