Senators give nod to state jobs

Senators with the join budget, finance and labour Commissions yesterday green-lighted state sector jobs by public contest, amending Ordinance 34/2009 by abrogating art 9 capping hiring in the state sector. The amendment, proposed by Labour Commission Chairman and PSD Senator Liviu Pop and upheld during the debates by all the representatives of Parliament-represented parties, is in effect this year only. Finance Ministry representatives opposed it on grounds of the stand-by agreement between Romania and international financial institutions. The Senate is the first House notified over issue, with the Chamber of Deputies to have the final say on the issue.
