Austria, one of the biggest investors in Romania

“Austria is today one of the main investors in the Romanian economy,” said PM Victor Ponta for Nine O’Clock last year. “It gives me great pleasure to reconfirm Romania’s attachment to the development of the friendly relations and the bilateral cooperation between Austria and Romania. Over the last decades, our relations have rapidly evolved, with Austria being today one of the main investors in the Romanian economy, as well as an essential partner in the EU, therefore creating a solid foundation for a successful cooperation in the future, for the benefit of our countries and of the whole region. Despite the current economic difficulties at the European level, our economic relations have remained consistent. In 2011, for the first time since the beginning of the crisis, our bilateral trade reached over 3 billion Euros, while the Romanian exports towards the Austrian market have gone above 1 billion Euros, for the first time ever. It is also noteworthy that the Austrian investments in the Romanian economy have exceeded 4.5 billion Euros,” also said the PM. This has also been outlined not just once by the Austrian diplomats in Bucharest who insisted on saying that “despite difficult times in the world economy, Romania and Austria are enjoying an outstanding relationship. Romania is the biggest market in Southeast Europe and Austrian companies are well settled in the country. “Romania is one of the most important export markets in Austria’s economy,” they said, adding that, “for years the Austrian economy is a major investor in different industries in Romania. OMV’s investment in Petrom and Erste Bank’s in BCR are the two largest foreign direct investments in Austria’s history.”
