Bucharest National Opera celebrates Women’s Day with “The Elixir of Love”

The Bucharest National Opera (ONB) is celebrating the International Women’s Day today with “The Elixir of Love / L’Elisir d’amore”, a two-act comic opera by Gaetano Donizetti, under the baton of conductor Tiberiu Soare, Mediafax quotes a ONB press release as saying. The opera is staged by Italian director Marco Gandini, who worked on major musical stages in Italy and the world at large. Among his collaborators, famed director Franco Zeffirelli. The cast features Adina-Cristina Marta Sandu (Adina), Lucian Corchis (Nemorino), Daniel Pop (Belcore), Vicentiu Taranu (Dulcamara) and Cristina Eremia (Gianetta). Speaking about the opera plot, the Italian director had this to say: “The storyline and music in «The Elixir of Love» are somehow contemporary, as they don’t include elements to pigeonhole them to a certain time. They tackle the universal theme of an inexperienced young man who strongly believes in the power of a medicine to help him in love.”
