Lamb meat could become 5-6 pc more expensive before Easter, in order to cover producers’ expenses, Romalimenta president Sorin Minea announced yesterday on TV. “The price of imported mutton soared by over 60 pc, while finite products became 15 pc more expensive last year, precisely in order to win the market. It is normal to expect price hikes this year, in order to cover expenses. (…) The idea is that, on Easter, competition is so high that the holiday ends with a loss, rather than profit,” Minea explained. According to the Romalimenta official, Romania earns less money than Bulgaria from lamb sales, although the neighbour country imports lambs from Romania.
