PNL wants compensatory damage period within 5 year timeframe

Former premier Calin Popescu Tariceanu yesterday said that Liberals propose a number of amendments to the government-proposed bill on compensatory damages to former owners of nationalized buildings, so that the overall process is completed within 5 and not 10 years as stipulated in the bill. Tariceanu described the time interval concerned as “extraordinary long”, reason for which PNL MPs call for its reduction and the setting up of Fondul Proprietatea 2. He also proposed that in case some of the claimants cannot obtain compensations from the National Real Estate Fund, they could get shares in Fondul Proprietatea 2, which will be made up of a number of state assets. PNL MPs yesterday held talks on constitutional amendments, as well as government assuming responsibility for the law on compensations and the return of nationalized buildings to former owners.
