The 15 per cent cut in expenditures on personnel may entail the elimination of “pointless” jobs, Premier Victor Ponta stated on Antena 3, adding that he finds it hard to believe that a ministry or public authority needs absolutely everything it currently has following the hiring done in 2010-2011. “I said they can be lowered so that we can hire graduates in the health, education, police systems. Expenditures on personnel can be lowered not by cutting salaries but by going to every central institution and seeing how many jobs are vacant, where the expenses are too high on trips abroad, on all kinds of other stuff. That is how that 15 per cent cut came about,” Ponta said on Antena 3. Asked whether the cut concerns only expenditures or jobs too, Ponta answered: “It may entail jobs too.” He reminded that at the start of the year he asked the ministers to point out the exact quantum of the necessary expenditures on personnel by March 31.
