Pedro Almodovar’s latest film to open TIFF 2013

Pedro Almodovar’s latest film, the comedy “The passenger lovers/ Los amantes pasajeros”, will be the 12th Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) opener on May 31 of this year. This “moral, oral and unreal or unrealistic” comedy, as the director himself describes it,  can be seen for the first time in Romania at a single showing in Cluj-Napoca’s Union Square, May 31, 8.45 p.m., The film will be screen at TIFF in partnership with Independenta Film. After a string of ‘dark’ melodramas, including “Volver”, “ Broken embraces/ Los abrazos rotos” and “The Skin I Live In/ La piel que habito”, Pedro Almodovar is back with “Los amantes pasajeros”, a comedy film in the vein of those that made him known in the 1980s. The action takes place on a plane, from the moment it breaks down and until an emergency landing, time interval during which passengers, “stripped of their iPhone-uri, little films, internet and iPads, are condemned to be themselves, surrounded by unknown people,” according to Almodovar. Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas, two of Almodovar’s favorite artists, make guest appearances in the film.
