Milk samples taken from two farms and two processing units are suspected of containing aflatoxin beyond the limits admitted by law, following tests made in the laboratories of the Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), the Authority informs. The suspect batches of milk are sequestered until the results of confirmation analyses will be available and, if necessary, an alert will be launched through the Rapid System and the respective batches will be destroyed, while if it tests negative, the milk will be declared free for sale. ANSVSA president Mihai Turcanu announced that the tests bulletins are expected to come in maximum two days. Yet, authorities refuse to make public the names of the farms involved in this row. Speaking about this incident, the president of Agrostar, Stefan Nicolae said that the chief of ANSVSA must be replaced with someone who knows to professionally manage the problems of the sector. He added that product verifications are welcome, but they should be done as products leave farms or enter the country, rather than when they already reached the stores. In his turn, PM Victor Ponta mentioned that it is important for controls to continue and, if problems are found, authorities should close the factory or remove the products from sale.
