Evenimentul Zilei: Udrea, supported by the strongest organisations of PDL

According to an analysis made by the newspaper Evenimentul Zilei, most PDL mayors sided with Elena Udrea in the race for the position of PDL president. Out of the 10 PDL mayors of county seat towns, 7 support Udrea: the mayors of Cluj – Emil Boc, Arad – Gheorghe Falca, Brasov – George Scripcaru, Piatra Neamt – Gheorghe Stefan,  Suceava – Ion Lungu, as well as the mayors of Targoviste – Gabriel Boriga and Drobeta Turnu Severin – Constantin Gherghe.  Vasile Blaga enjoys the support of the mayors of Alba Iulia – Mircea Hava, Targu Mures – Dorin Florea and Tulcea – Constantin Hogea.  According to the EvZ journalists, Elena Udrea also has the support of approximately 200 other mayors, including those of the organisations led by the presidents that expressed their preference for Vasile Blaga. Most mayors thus chose to side with Elena Udrea due to how she supported various projects for local communities, when she was minister of Regional development. The former leader of PDL, Emil Boc said yesterday that Elena Udrea, a candidate for the top position in the party, coming as challenger, seems to have better chances than acting president Vasile Blaga, the day of the vote in the National Convention. “We need a correct and legitimate Convention. The day of the Congress will be very important, the way candidates will present themselves to the 5,000 delegates will hugely influence the final vote in the Convention. With this regard, Elena Udrea, coming as a challenger, coming from behind, seems to have better chances the day of the vote, compared to the acting candidate,” Boc commented. Asked if the presence of President Traian Basescu in the PDL Convention could tip the scales in favour of a candidate, Boc gave a negative answer.
