The former employees of the Mechel plant in Campia Turzii resumed their protests against the plant’s Russian owners that stopped paying compensatory salaries on February 4 and announced they will open legal action against the plant’s leadership and will protest outside the Russian Embassy in Bucharest and the Invest Nikarom company’s headquarters, Realitatea TV informs. This was the 16th day of protests. Just as they did for the past two days, on Wednesday protesters blocked the E60 road outside the plant. In order to do that the former employees resorted to the unusual manner of continuously crossing the road, using a pedestrian crossing. Cluj County Prefect Gheorghe Vuscan claims that all payments for the 720 workers laid off and for the 363 workers still employed by Mechel Campia Turzii can be covered by the Romanian state form the sum that Mechel asked the National Fiscal Administration Agency for as VAT reimbursement.
