Tarom to lay off 10 pc of staff this year

Tarom will initiate a voluntary personnel withdrawal programme in March, under the management plan proposed by the Board of Director, which stipulates a 10 per cent reduction of the airline staff by the end of the year, Mediafax informs.  According to the draft revenue and expenditure budget proposed for this year, Tarom could have 2,030 employees at the end of 2013. By comparison, the 2012 budget included a total number of 2,196 employees at year end. Tarom CEO Christian Heinzmann said during a press conference on Thursday that, in his opinion and also considering the current fleet of the company, Tarom should have about 1,500 employees in total by 2015, when the intention is to start making profit again, under the new management plan.
