Habitat for Humanity Romania, ProAct Support and Open Society Foundations (OSI)-Mental Health Initiative, with support from DGASPC Giurgiu got started the construction project of a pilot community house for people with mental disabilities.  OSI contributed USD 130.000 to the USD 150,000 investment, with the remaining USD 20.000 coming from donations. The construction of the house should be finished by late August 2013, with volunteers being welcome to this project seeking to take mentally disabled people from an institutionalized environment and help them insert socially. The 250 sq. m multi-purpose construction is adapted to health-related situations such residents could face, being designed by experts at the    „Institute for Human Centered Design” Boston – U.S.A. „The Mihail House provides the environment necessary for development of life abilities, helping its residents gain their dignity by involving them in community life, without being segregated in institutions where they are stripped of their rights more often than not,” Zamfir Todor,  Program Manager, Habitat for Humanity Romania, said at the inauguration ceremony. In her turn, Cerasela Nicoleta Predescu, Director Pro ACT Suport, mentioned: „The Mihail House is more than a house, it’s a home that reveals the potential of the human being, contributing to the creation of a community where people are valued.”
