The High Court adjourned hearing the “Suitcase” case to April 22, wherein Gigi Becali and other defendants were acquitted of the charges of giving bribe, having tried to award money to Universitatea Cluj players with a view to their game against CFR Cluj in 2008. Gigi Becali, Alina Florentina Ciul and Teia Sponte asked to give their defense lawyers time to prepare the case. Also, Becali requested the court to take note of his unwillingness to make any further statements on the case. Upon exiting the court hall, , Gigi Becali said prosecutors should no longer focus on the “code of 68”, but take into account Romania’s current Constitution, and the European anti-corruption legislation in force.
