National tour of “Astra Film Junior” Festival gets started

The documentary film festival for children and teens will be screened in 20 locations.

The film productions part of the “Astra Film Junior” Sibiu Children and Teen Documentary Film Festival in 20 Romanian locations. The films, which have “Water” as a generic theme, will be watched by over 30,000 pupils.According to Monday’s press release issued by the festival organizers, this is the second consecutive year the Festival will be accompanied by a national tour which, given the numerous requests, will include 20 locations.In addition to Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi, Deva and Sibiu where the festival films were projected last year, this year, they will also travel to Alba Iulia, Pitesti, Ploiesti, Brasov, Baicoi, Bucov, Magurele, Medias, Selistat, Horezu, Ramnicu Valcea, Targu Jiu, Baia Mare and Abrud.

“It’s a great joy for us to see that the Astra Film Junior program is so much in demand nationwide. The program is quite popular among the pupils in Sibiu County, with 6,000 having attended it last year, and this year tens of thousands nationwide will have access to it. This surge was possible also to the valuable and prestigious partnership with the French Institute, which this year too requested that the program unfolds at its Romanian locations,” the release quoted Dumitru Budrala, director Astra Film, as saying.

This year’s festival, whose generic theme is “Water”, brings some new educational dimensions, as the pupils will also get ecologically educated through documentaries complementing their visual, cinematic and cultural education. Participants will acquire basic notions of human-environmental and about global water issues and how they are resolved.UNESCO has decreed 2013 as  “International Year of Water Cooperation”, given the vital importance water has  According to UN statistics, lack of access to drinking water causes 1.8 M people to get sick and die every year. Water is stipulated as a resource subject to geopolitical strategies, and youth should be aware about how they can properly manage water. The films going to be watched part of the festival will be accompanied by relevant didactic materials teachers can use to increase awareness about this issue, according to the quoted source.   Organizers estimate that film productions will be seen by over 30,000 pupils in this country.The Astra Film Junior Tour is organized April 1-5 by Astra Film Studio in partnership with the cu French Institute in Bucharest, the Baia Mare School Inspectorate and House of the teaching Staff, the “Saint Nicolae” Association Abrud and the “Dragan Muntean” Cultural Center.
