Draconic measures for Romanian drivers – this is what the Ministry of Interior proposes. Fines will increase to a maximum RON 7,500 for those who break traffic rules, while video cameras will be installed in the vehicles used for driving exams. The measures do not solve the issue of road safety in Romania, considers the Association of Victims of Traffic
Accidents.Another modification of the law refers to the vehicles and trailers registered abroad, which are used in Romania. Last year, according to Police data, more than 42,000 cars registered in Bulgaria were stopped in traffic for the verification of documents. The Ministry of Interior now proposed that such vehicles may be used in Romania only 30 days, after they were issued all due papers in the countries where they were registered.Another novelty will be the pressure put by authorities on the drivers that receive a traffic ticket. Those who are in this situation will have 90 days to pay the fine, else their driving license will be suspended. When they pay the fine, they must immediately send the invoice to Police, in order to avoid the suspension.
