Mazare on Cernea: “An idiot! I’’ll break his legs when he comes to Constanta again!”

Just elected president of the Constanta branch of the Social Democratic Party ( PSD,) Radu Mazare disavows the initiative of Green Party Deputy ( USL affiliate) Remus Cernea, whom he called an “idiot”,  over funding of religious denominations from the state budget and urged him to pull back the  proposal. “I’m angry with Deputy Cernea. (…) He quarrels with the Church, the priests, an idiot, what else can I say about him,”  Mazare said Monday evening, addressing the PSD Constanta Conference. “Since the  PSD Constanta has not been consulted about it, we call for this legislative initiative to be withdrawn and, at the same time, we call on  Deputy Remus Cernea to apologize publicly,” said Radu Mazare.

The PSD Constanta president also said that unless this happens, he will break the deputy’s legs when he comes to Constanta again. Cernea run  in College 9 Constanta on the USL ticket in the 2012 legislative election and won.  Remus Cernea replied that he proposed a financing system helping religious denominations to benefit from predictable, and fairly substantial financing . “ get the impression that his <Mazare’s> views start from an inaccurate information on my stand. Actually, I’m from a religious denomination financing model widely assumed in European countries. As of now,  Romania doesn’t have a law on financing religious denominations.  Financing is arbitrary now. I set out a financing system of religious denominations that will help them benefit from predictable, stable and fairly substantial  means of financing. This system will strengthen the autonomy of religious denominations,” Cernea said, according to Realitatea TV.

In his turn, PM Victor Ponta said Monday evening that  Remus Cernea’s proposal had not been discussed in the USL and does not have its backing, given it’s only his personal initiative.
