The first tranche of the Value Added Tax (VAT) was disbursed to Mechel Campia Turzii, with a portion of the money however retained in order to pay for the debt the Russian company owes to the Romanian state. ”(…) The Romanian state must disburse Mechel VAT worth RON 93.93 M. At the same time, (…) for the period corresponding to the first payment, Mechel Campia Turzii owes RON 86.103 M to the Romanian state, an amount offset by VAT reimbursement,’ according to a press release from the Cluj Prefecture. According to the release, the money difference received by Mechel can be used for the payment of salary arrears.
