Austria Card Romania yesterday announced the formal opening of a factory that will develop, manufacture and personalise smart cards (chip-based cards) in Bucharest, a first for Romania. “We are very pleased with the additional capacity brought by this new factory,” said in a press conference Markus Prancz, Managing Director Austria Card Romania. “The new equipment allows us to make state-of-the-art cards in a record time and contributes to significantly increasing the daily volume of cards we produce.” Following a EUR 25 M investment, the new production facility will provide chip-based cards as Contactless, Dual Interface, Contact-based payment instruments, and also as secure identification instruments, for the local market and CEE. Over 80 pc of the cards manufactured in Bucharest will be exported to more than 35 countries. Also, until the end of the year, the Austrian company plans to hire for its new factory 50 more employees in various departments – IT, production, operators, sales force. The company is headquartered in its own office, in Bucharest, and together with Inform Lykos SA, the secure documents division of the Lykos group in Romania, it provides its customers with complete personalised solutions.
