World Press Photo, the world’s top photojournalistic event, comes to Bucharest’s University Square for the second year in succession, May 2-26, organizers announce. The exhibition is an initiative of World Press Photo Foundation, founded in The Netherlands, 1955, functions as an independent, non-profit organization based in Amsterdam dedicated to high photojournalism and documentary photo standards. All the works registered with the foundation-organized contest are for public display at an annual itinerant exhibition worldwide, each edition set up in over 100 venues in more than 145 countries and visited by over 3.5 M people.The World Press Photo Competition debuted in 1955, when 42 photographers from 11 countries registered over 300 photos towards a jury selection. In 2012, the contest attracted 5,247 participants from 124 countries who registered 101,254 photographs.
