Asked whether he agrees with PSD president Victor Ponta, who said that the slogan ‘Down with Basescu!’ cannot become a project for the country, Eugen Nicolaescu said that this was USL’s aim during the electoral campaign. ‘As far as I am concerned, when I stood in front of thousand of people during the electoral campaign and I told them we want to change Romania, and that by changing Romania we mean eliminating the Basescu regime, I can’t recant on that. On the contrary, my duty is to show that Romania can be changed for the better and that the Basescu regime hurt the country. This is the duty of a politician,’ Nicolaescu said.
